Dunfyboy's Hvnly Brkbts

Download from MediaFire.

Some of these tunes appear on a compilation called Chemical Dance Culture - Test 2: Heavenly Break Beats. A bit of a mouthful, but it did give me the idea for the mix's title.

It's 80 minutes of early happy hardcore and when you listen to the mix, you might notice some D & B influences as most of these tracks are from the time when the breakbeat hardcore scene was splitting into happy hardcore and jungle.

Anyway, enjoy, and remember to not leave a comment.

Dunfyboy's Naughty Naughty Mix

Download from MediaFire.

I know, I know. I said I wasn't posting any more old school mixes for a while but I'm going to reinstall Windows and as I had a couple of old school mixes already recorded on my PC I thought I'd upload them first.

Besides, the last couple proved so popular (well, 4 people leaving coments is good going in these times of lurkers, leeches and ungrateful cunts), I thought you might like a couple more breakbeat hardcore/early happy hardcore/whatever the fuck you wanna call it mixes.

This one features the 11 Naughty Naughty bootleg 12"s that came out in 93/94. If you've never heard of them, they're basically unofficial happy hardcore remixes of dance tracks from the late 80s/early 90s.

Surprisingly, this is just the 2nd mix on the site with a constant tempo. This time, 160bpm.

Enjoy.

01 - Naughty Naughty 1A (I Need Your Lovin - NRG)
02 - Naughty Naughty 2B (Meltdown - Quartz)
03 - Naughty Naughty 1B (20 Seconds To Comply - Silver Bullet)

OK, after a bit of a lay off, Dunfyboy's Mixes is back in action.

This is the 1st of 2 old school mixes I'm putting up this week. As this one is mostly breakbeats, it seems the natural sequel to my Old School Classics Mix that I posted way back in January, or maybe my Big Four-Oh Mix.

New Mixes Soon

As I predicted, the PS3 has eaten into my spare time. Performance wise, I'd say it's no better or worse than my 360 (hell of a lot quiter though). I prefer the PS3's interface and the pad just feels more natural as I've been playing on one Sony box or another for over a decade so the 360 may be getting eBayed soon.

Anyway, I've been looking out some more old school tunes and hope to get a couple of new mixes up here within the week. After that, who knows what the next mix will be, but it'll be a little more up to date whatever it is.

Dunfyboy's Old School Mix 2

Download from MediaFire.
As I mentioned last time, these tunes were all hits in the dance charts and the proper charts that the big labels spend so much time and money rigging. Top Of The Pops-tastic :)

The exceptions that prove the rule are Flute On and Nightbird. I don't think either artist has ever dented the top 40, but I forgot to include them in the last mix.

While I'm proving the inaccuracies of the mix's title, I wouldn't call the last 3 tracks old school as they came out in 96, but I couldn't be arsed making a "Not Quite Old School Mix". 36 out of 39 isn't bad. Besides, I can do what I want. I'm god around here.

Enjoy

01 - Groove Is In The Heart - Deee-Lite
02 - (I Wanna Give You) Devotion - Nomad
03 - Naked In The Rain - Blue Pearl
04 - Flute On (Voice On) - Secchi

06 - Bells of NY - Slo Moshun
07 - Move Your Body (Elevation) - Xpansions
08 - Touch Me - 49ers
09 - Ride Like The Wind (Factory Edit) - East Side Beat
10 - What Is Love - Haddaway
11 - Hideaway (Deep Dish Radio Mix) - De' Lacy
12 - Show Me Love (Single Edit) - Robin S
13 - 7 Ways To Love - Cola Boy
14 - Rhythym Is A Dancer - Snap!
15 - Give It Up - The Good Men
16 - A Deeper Love - Clivillés & Cole
17 - All Funked Up - Mother

PS - Don't think I'm gonna get the next mix up before the PS3 arrives, so Dunfyboy's Mixes could be quiet for the next week or two. If you haven't already done so, remember to check the archives. There's bound to be something you'll like.

Dunfyboy's Old School Mix 1

Download from MediaFire.

It's been a while since I've done any old school mixes. I've got another 2 or 3 planned and hope to get them up in the next week or so. I'd better, as the 80Gb PS3 is on order and I plan to lose at least the next couple of weeks of my life to it (£330 for the console, GTA4, MGS 4 & an HDMI cable, if you're interested).

I was going to do a follow up to my Classic House mix, posted back in January (it seems so long ago) but, as the next mix will have a more commercial sound, I've included some "breakthrough" tracks here, too. That's why this mix has some 80s house, a bit of acid, some "cut n paste" tracks, along with stuff that broke though to the mainstream (Top Of The Pops even!).

So, no Classic House Vol 2, just plain ol' Old School Mix Vol 1.

Enjoy.

Dunfyboy's Sugar Hill Mix

Download from MediaFire.

It's been a strange month. I've only upped a few mixes and, as a result, the downloads weren't even in treble figures till a few days ago when my DJ Shadow Mix was posted on the Solesides website. I really need to start spreading the word about my site. If only I wasn't so bloody lazy!!!

This will probably be the last mix of the month. It's a tribute to one of the oldest of old school hip hop labels - Sugar Hill Records.

It's first release, Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight", came out in 1979. It sampled the bass line from Chic's "Good Times" which led to the label being sued. It wasn't the only lawsuit filled against the label in it's all too brief existence. Even Grandmaster Flash sued. This, along with contract disputes, caused many of the artists to leave and the label folded in 1986.

A short but sweet experience then. 20 plus years on, some of the rhymes may sound a little dated (I guess the star sign thing worked with the ladies at the time) and I never could work out why having butter on your toast was bragging or being boastful, but the label gave us some true classics and I think it's fair to say the world of hip hop would have turned out differently without it.

The first Sugar Hill track I heard was as a 10 year old back in 1984. My dad had a C90 he used to play in the car with Kreftwerk's "Autobahn" on one side and various other songs, including "White Lines", on the other. So you can thank my old man for this mix.

Enjoy.

Dunfyboy's Old School Electro & Hip Hop Mix

Download from MediaFire.

AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH! More router problems: no wireless connection, dropped lines halfway through an upload. It's doing my head in. If BT ever offer you a Home Hub, tell them to stick it up their arse!!! This mix should have been upped right after my DJ Shadow Mix. Anyway ...

On my travels round the net I stumbled on an old school electro mix by a guy called Bamboo. Check it out at Def Momentum's blog.

It made me want to do my own electro mix, which I kinda haven't done as I wouldn't really class all these tracks as electro (hence the mix name) and "Walking On Sunshine" wouldn't have sounded out of place on my Classic House Mix, but they're all from the early 80s and it all comes together in another awesome Dunfyboy mix. (Nothing wrong with a bit of shameless self-promotion, right?)

There's about a dozen or so songs that feature on both Bamboo's and my own mixes, but I'd still recommend downloading both mixes (mine first, obviously :-)

Anyway, here it is. Enjoy.

01 - Boogie Down (Bronx) - Man Parrish
02 - I'm The Packman (Eat Everything I Can) - The Packman
03 - One For The Treble - Davy DMX
04 - Freaks Come Out At Night - Whodini
05 - Haunted House Of Rock - Whodini
06 - More Bounce To The Ounce - Zapp
07 - Friends - Whodini
08 - Magic's Wand - Whodini
09 - Rockit - Herbie Hancock
10 - Play That Beat Mr DJ - G.L.O.B.E. & Whiz Kid
11 - Rapper's Delight - The Sugarhill Gang
12 - Jam On It - Newcleus
13 - Walking On Sunshine - Rockers Revenge ft Donnie Calvin
14 - He's Got The Beat - Whiz Kid
15 - Let The Music Play - Shannon
16 - (Hey You) The Rock Steady Crew - Rock Steady Crew
17 - White Lines (Don't Do It) - Grandmaster & Melle Mel
18 - Axel F - Harold Faltermeyer
19 - My Hands Are Quicker Than The Eye - Byron Davis & The Fresh Krew
20 - Breaker's Revenge - Arthur Baker
21 - Looking For The Perfect Beat - Afrika Bambaataa & The Soulsonic Force
22 - Sticky Situation - Tyrone Brunson

26 - Lookout Weekend - Debbie Deb
27 - Space Is The Place - Newcleus
28 - We Rock The House - Royal Velour & Double O

30 - Clear - Cybotron
31 - It's Automatic - Freestyle
32 - Planet Rock - Afrika Bambaataa & The Soulsonic Force
33 - Play At Your Own Risk - Planet Patrol

PS - Don't worry if you think there should've been more from the Sugar Hill label. That's next.

***EDIT*** Blogger have killed Def Momentum's blog. Guess someone reported him for sharing out of print 12"s. Twats. Anyway, if you want to get the page with Bamboo's mix on it, it's still in Google's cache so click here
***EDIT 2*** Even the cached page is gone now, but here's a link I found for it http://collectiveindustries.com/mixes/Bamboo_LastNightADjSavedMyLife_Mix.mp3
