Dunfyboy's 808 State Mix

Get it from MediaFire.
It's been a while since I did one of my artist mixes and even longer since I did an old school mix so, to put the record straight on both counts, here's my tribute to 808 State, including a couple of tracks they did with MC Tunes, remixes from Aphex Twin, Brian Eno and (of course) Jon Carter along with 808 State's remix of The Stone Roses' classic "Made Of Stone".
The mix has been pretty much done and dusted for a few days now, but the original 3/4 time version of "Lopez" didn't really mix properly with One In Ten so I've used the Eno version instead. Even so, I'm still not sure. Let me know what you think. If you fancy a mix with the original version of "Lopez", I'd recommend this awesome mix. Oh, it's one of mine. I didn't even notice :)

Dunfyboy's DJ Hero Mix

Get it here.
Never did get that mix finished. Sony fixed the PS3 so I got distracted. Well, when I say fixed, I mean they just waited and did fuck all while keeping PS3 owners in the dark. And when I say Sony, I mean useless cunts. It may eventually see the light of day though.
Anyway, still on the games console theme, here's a mix featuring 45 of the tracks used in DJ Hero. It's ripped at 128kbps (as that's what the original files were) and is an hour long. Special thanks to Franglais at MFTM forum for the original files.

Sony are useless cunts

I wasn't planning on doing a mix today. I've been playing about with some breaks and mash ups but I just can't get into it. After a 80 hour week I was planning on spending today on PES 2010 and Borderlands but my PS3 is fucked thanks to the useless cunts at Sony not being able to divide by 4.

30 million phat PS3s were turned into paperweights at midnight as the internal clocks sent themselves back in time to 1999. It looks as though they can't cope with 29th February only rolling round every 4 years, rather than every 2.

That's just a best guess of course, because Sony are denying the extent of the problem. Their official line is some users can't connect to PSN. Doesn't sound so bad when you put it like that does it? I don't even sign into PSN that often and rarely play online anyway thanks to BT's shitty phonelines. But the fact is that 30 million PS3 owners can't even play offline. Sony have managed to brick 9 billion quids worth of consoles in one fail swoop.

I don't expect something as technical as a PS3 to run glitch free 100% of the time, but I do expect Sony to admit the scale of the problem and keep its customers up to date with a possible fix rather than leave them all guessing. Internet forums are rife with people pissed of with Sony as they're left wondering if their PS3 are fucked for good as the last word from Sony on the problem was 17 hours ago on Twitter (of all things) and the good old press have charged their greatest investigative journalists with not chasing the story. The Telegraph claims this fuck up is only affecting thousands of people, and the BBC took 16 hours to pretty much just copy and paste Sony's twitter post. This might not make them cunts, but it certainly makes them just as useless.

Rant over.

PS - thanks to the all who've left comments over the past few days. Appreciated as always

Dunfyboy - Trance 8

MediaFire link here.

It's over a year since I did a trance mix and after hearing Mediterranean Flower on the Horizon Radio podcast I meant to include it in Trance 7. I'll admit I don't keep up with trance music like I used to, so I checked out some new releases on Trance Junkies meaning most of this mix is fairly new stuff, along with a couple of tunes from the turn of the decade (last time round) and that long overdue appearance of Mediterranean Flower.

Bit of a news update too. My previous mixes have all been at 128kbps. This one is 192kpbs. It means it should sound a bit better when you crank the volume up and at around 100mb it doesn't make the file too large.

Also, in case you haven't noticed the link over on the right, I've set up another blog - Old School Mixes. I've still to sort out the site layout but all my CD rips of old school dance mixes are up so head over there for a bit of nostalgia.

Inspired by Basstronix' Bass Breaks Vol 2 (which you check out over at Stuzzy Daz's blog), here's my own dubby, reggae, ska, breaks type thing, ending with a bit of a rave up. At least it'll make a nice change from all those awful carols we've heard non-stop for the past month (or more).

PT RIP

In case you haven't noticed, PearsonTowers.com is no more. A sad loss to us all, but the you can fill the void a little at Stuzzy Daz's new blog Mixes For The Masses. He's even started a forum where you can post your own links to mixes.

I've been working on a new blog too, posting all my dance music CDs from the 90's. It's still a work in progress but you can check it out here

And thanks to all who have left comments recently. It's good to know I'm not talking to myself.

*****EDIT*****

...and it's back. Don't know if its back for good, but at least its back for now.

Dunfyboy's Hybrid Mix

Here's the link.

I see plenty of downloads, but no comments. C'mon peeps, play the game. Good, bad or indifferent, let me know what you think.

Hybrid's name kept cropping up when I was digging through remixes for my last mix so I thought I'd do a mix dedicated to them. Like their countryman High Contrast, they've knocked out a few decent tunes of their own but it's their remixes that really do it for me. Here's 19 tracks either by them or remixed by them all mixed together by yours truly.

Enjoy, and leave some fucking comments!!!

Dunfyboy's Remix Mix

Click here to download this mix from Rapidshare.

I've had this mix in mind for a while after stumbling across I Prefer The Remix where I found a mp3 of Jon Carter's remix of Cubik (well, it saved me ripping it from the 12").

Some remixes are a complete waste of time. They might just change the beat slightly or have the breakdown run for a bit longer or stick a 4-on-the-floor drumbeat over a rock song to make a club remix. You'll often hear a "breaks" remix is just the original tune with amen breaks laid over the top. Speed it up and you've got a drum and bass remix (like the Rcola remix, but I couldn't help myself). On the other hand, some can prove more popular than the original.

Timo Mass' remix of Doom's Night is the one everyone thinks of when you mention the song, so much so that other remixes are based on this version rather than the original. Jam & Spoon's remix of Age Of Love became the definitive version and has appeared on more compilations than the original mix and, as you'll see with Ed Solo's take on it, sometimes you can totally reinvent an old song.

You might even find a remix gets overlooked because it's on the flipside of a classic. That's why I've used the Morning Time Mix of You've Got The Love. It never stood a chance against Erin's Bootleg Mix. The Now Voyager Remix is another example of breathing new life into an old song.

I'm sure there are other remixes you think may have been on this mix. I did consider Born Slippy Nuxx, but the Nuxx version bares no resemblance to the original so I've always thought of it as an original song in it's own right.

Hopefully there's something here you've never heard before. There's a lot more out there than the main mix they keep hammering on MTV or Radio One. Sometimes you have to dig a little deeper, and remixes like these are your reward.

Enjoy.

Dunfyboy's R&S Records Mix

It's been a while since I upped a new mix, and the best part of 6 months since I upped an old school mix, so this is well overdue. I thought I'd pay tribute to the Belgian label R&S Records, so that means a bit of house, a bit of acid, a bit of new beat and plenty of good old faceless techno bollocks. They were one of the biggest labels back in the day so you'll recognise some of the names and tracks but hopefully there'll be something you've not heard before (or not for a while, at least).
